Sangfor HCI Success Story of a Hydroinformatics Organization
Customer Background
A government-affiliated hydroinformatics organization focuses on the integration and analysis of hydroinformatics data systems. It conducts research and development of advanced tools and technologies to enhance water resource management. The organization aims to improve research outcomes in this field on a national and international level.
Customer Requirements & Challenges
The customer aims to enhance water management capabilities and to effectively analyze issues related to water resource management in all aspects by the year 2023. To achieve this, they developed an application system that tracks changes in water status across the country by utilizing data obtained from earth observation satellites.
- The application platform must be able to support the system’s need to handle a vast amount of data from across the nation, approximately 100 terabytes (TB). However, traditional three-tier architecture suffers from performance bottlenecks, and resources are not easy to scale up and out.
- The customer was concerned about cybersecurity for the new system and its data, especially considering the new application system’s need to share information with various external systems and agencies involved in water resource management.
Sangfor Solution
The customer deployed a server cluster comprising 5 Sangfor HCI (Hyperconverged Infrastructure) nodes. Sangfor HCI is a software-defined data center (SDDC) solution that integrates compute, storage, networking, and security into a unified software stack. Sangfor HCI caters to a wide range of digital transformation use cases, including enterprise application hosting, hybrid cloud, virtual desktop infrastructure, distributed storage, and disaster recovery.
- The HCI cluster is used to host the customer’s new Running Water Monitor System, which includes multiple sub-systems, including a map-based indicator system and grid-based spatial simulation systems.
- Sangfor HCI is integrated with vAF (virtual Sangfor Network Secure firewall) and Sangfor Endpoint Secure to protect the new application system.
- The solution was bundled with Sangfor KubeManager (Kubernetes/K8s) for the customer’s development team to develop, test, and manage containerized applications.
- Sangfor Cyber Command, an advanced Network Detection and Response (NDR) platform, is deployed to monitor and analyze network traffic for security threats. It is integrated with Sangfor HCI, Endpoint Secure, and Network Secure to provide robust protection for the customer’s new application system.
Solution Outcomes
- The Sangfor HCI platform delivers a reliable and high-performance computing environment, ensuring the smooth operation of the customer’s application system.
- Multiple security technologies are tightly integrated into a holistic system to secure the customer’s application system and its data. Cyber Command is capable of analyzing traffic from various external systems that connect with the customer’s application system and network to detect any suspicious traffic.
- Sangfor offered a comprehensive solution with centralized management to make it easy for the customer to operate security and applications with great cost-efficiency.
